The United Church of Christ (UCC) is a distinct and diverse community of Christians that come together as one church to join faith and action.  With over 5,000 churches and nearly one million members across the U.S., the UCC serves God in the co-creation of a just and sustainable world.  The UCC is a church of firsts, a church of extravagant welcome, and a church where "…they may all be one" (John 17:21).

Girl Going to Church

Brownback’s UCC was founded in 1743. Our beautiful sanctuary was built in the early 1800’s and our Fellowship Hall was built in 1967.
The Brownback’s family includes a mix of both long-time residents and families new to the area; some of our youngest church members are direct descendants of the Brownback family! For those new families moving into northern Chester County, Brownback’s wishes to welcome you to our area and invites you to join us for worship and fellowship.

The first congregation of Brownback’s UCC was formally organized on May 19, 1743.  At that time, it was known as the First Reformed Church of Coventry. During this early period, there was no church building. The congregation was visited by their pastor, Rev. Lischey, who rode horseback to serve a circuit of 16 churches.

The plot of ground on which our church stands was given by Gerhard Brumbach (or later interpreted as Garrett Brownback) who came to America in 1683. Brumbach was one of the earliest settlers of German nationality in the Vincent area.

The earliest structure used to worship in was a log building followed by a stone structure. Although there were four structures prior to the current sanctuary, they were all located on the same plot of land. The current church sanctuary was constructed in 1879 with many additions since then, including a bell tower, Sunday school rooms, church annex, and the Fellowship Hall (in 1967).

In the past 250+ years, pastors have served the congregation just short of 10 years. Several current member families trace their direct lineage back to Gerhard Brumbach.

All areas of our building are air conditioned to provide a more comfortable worship experience in all types of weather.
